The Foundation of NHS
Four qualities. Equal importance.
WHS identifies character, scholarship, leadership and service as the four core qualities of National Honor Society membership. No one category is more important than another.

Character
Applicants are reviewed by WHS staff with consideration given to how students represent themselves and the school.

Scholarship
Applicants are expected to meet and maintain the academic standard established for WHS National Honor Society.

Leadership
Leadership is not limited to holding a title. Students can lead vocally, by example or behind the scenes.

Service
Students demonstrate meaningful involvement through service that contributes to the school and community.

NHS considers a student's record across academics, school involvement, community service, leadership and character.

CHARACTER / SCHOLARSHIP / LEADERSHIP / SERVICE

Scholarship Weighted GPA of 90 or higher
Students applying to WHS National Honor Society are required to meet and maintain the established academic standard.

School Involvement Average of 2 sports or activities per year
Applicants should demonstrate active involvement in WHS-sponsored clubs, sports or activities.

Service Average of 3 community service activities per year
Service may occur through WHS organizations or through other activities that meaningfully contribute to the community.

Leadership Demonstrated leadership experience
WHS currently identifies two leadership roles as part of the NHS application criteria. A formal title is not required.

Character WHS staff review
Applicant names are submitted to WHS staff for review as part of the character component of the application process.

Beyond the Application
Membership is about continued involvement.
The 2026–27 WHS club packet describes NHS membership as an opportunity to improve the school and community through service while continuing to develop leadership skills. Membership reflects the same four qualities considered during the application process.
